Family Pictures at The Great Saltair

If you’re looking for a stunning location near Salt Lake City for family pictures, The Great Saltair is a perfect option. I’m excited to share why so many people choose to do their family pictures at the Great Saltair.

Location of The Great Saltair

The Great Saltair is a convenient alternative for those who love the look of the iconic salt flats, but don’t want to drive nearly 2 hours. Located by the Great Salt Lake, The Great Saltair is only about a 20-minute drive from Salt Lake City. Families who want that iconic open, white salt flat look without spending hours on the road will love this location. Not only is it convenient, but it also offers plenty of parking, making it a hassle-free spot for your family session.

Scenery

One of the highlights of The Great Saltair is its incredible scenery. The open landscape gives a sense of vastness, perfect for creating beautiful, timeless photos. The variety of lighting offers different moods: bright and contrasty light, and soft even light after the sun sets.

Versatility

The versatility of The Great Saltair makes it especially appealing for family photos. Whether you prefer a neutral background that allows your family to stand out or the addition of a unique lake view, there’s something for everyone. It’s also an ideal spot for coordinating outfits—since the background is relatively neutral, your family’s wardrobe can stand out from the setting. I love the mom’s choice of green dress in this session!

Tips For Shooting at The Great Saltair

  1. If you want to take family pictures at The Great Saltair, I have a few tips! Because the Great Saltair is a concert venue, there are a handful of dates each year when this location is unavailable. Be sure to check the events calendar to be sure there isn’t a concert on the day you are hoping to shoot. Security is tight and they do not allow photographers on the beach those days.
  2. Bring bug spray! Because The Great Saltair is on the edge of the lake, mosquitos are common from Spring to Fall. I always bring bug spray with me just in case! I also suggest bringing an old towel to clean your feet or shoes off after your shoot, as it’s quite sandy.
  3. Bring water with you. Especially when your family session is in the summer, bringing water with you to this location is really helpful. Because there is no shade, it’s easy to get thirsty!

If you’re planning a family session at The Great Saltair, you’re in for a treat. This location offers an unforgettable backdrop that’s close to Salt Lake City and provides endless options for unique and memorable family pictures.
