When do the Lavender Fields Bloom in Utah?

This Lavender field is my most anticipated location of the year! Each year I look forward to shooting in the purple paradise of the lavender fields in Utah. It’s the perfect backdrop that’s both simple and open but also breathtaking and unique.

When do the Lavender Fields bloom in Utah?

The lavender fields typically begin to bloom in late June, giving us the best flowers to work with in early July! Each year I plan on early July being the best time for family sessions, but it can fluctuate year to year. The flowers are always beautiful. However, when Utah gets long winters with lots of snow we are rewarded with deeper purples in the summer. This year with the amazing winter we had, the lavender was the best that I’ve ever seen it! The time of day is equally important as the time of year. Golden hour brings such fun light to the fields: I typically start each session at 8 in the evening to get both the dynamic and soft light throughout my sessions! The setting sun brings such warmth to fields creating a dreamlike atmosphere.

Booking your Session

In order to shoot at the lavender fields, you have to reserve a spot with Young Living Farms. Spots book up quickly, especially for prime time. For that reason, each year I make sure to be the first to reserve spots at the field and get permits on the best days for my clients! I then release the dates I have available in late March through my email list. If you want to shoot in this location, it’s never too early to contact me or join my email list to be sure you don’t miss out on the magic!

The Hayes Family

I spent time with the Hayes family in the lavender fields this summer! There is a perfect amount of space to explore and play around with your family. We were able to capture such dreamy candid photos as the kids played around in the fields.

One of my favorite parts of this session was the family’s outfit choices. Soft pastels, muted tones, and earthy hues work wonderfully against the purple scenery. The whole family went with a neutral wardrobe. Mom wore a pair of shorts that worked so well! I’m glad she was able to choose an outfit that was unique and comfortable for her. When you pick out your wardrobe, make sure to pick what feels best for you!
